Emotional Well-Being Over Everything

Emotional wellness or Emotional Well-Being, refers to a person’s ability to cope with their emotions and the many life experiences they face. It is an important component of holistic wellness since it can affect your attitude on life, relationships, and health. It is critical to look after your emotional health. You can manage the numerous aspects of your life and work with a variety of emotions when you’re emotionally healthy. You recover quickly from the various unexpected curveballs life throws at you.

Emotional well-being enables you to focus on the good while managing any unpleasant emotions or sentiments you may be experiencing in a given situation. This can assist you in forging stronger bonds with individuals around you. As rightly said by Fr. Richard Rohr – “If we do not transform our pain, we will most assuredly transmit it — usually to those closest to us: our family, our neighbors, our co-workers, and invariably, the most vulnerable, our children.”

As a society, it is essential that we evolve to a point where we accept our emotions wholeheartedly and understand that they are just energies in motion. We are perfectly capable of withstanding any emotional storm that comes our way as long as we remember that emotions are not permanent and that they will come to pass. With awareness about the impermanence of our emotions, we will be better equipped to resist the urge to be afraid of emotions and suppress them.

It is only when we avoid and deny our core emotions that we start to sow the seeds of our own suffering. Emotions demand to be felt, to be acknowledged and accepted. Their Reality has to be established by us after which we can be truly free of them. However, we keep denying and avoiding them in order to escape the temporary pain that sometimes accompanies our emotions, we will only be bereft of experiencing the depth of our own being.

To be truthful to ourselves, we need to be honest with ourselves about our emotions. The Body should correspond to the emotion in the mind. To do that we need to drop the facade of perfection and not stress over how we look to the third person. It is highly likely that the other person is going through much deeper turmoil and suppressing it, why fear judgment from someone who is not honest to themselves. Moreover, those who are honest to themselves won’t judge you anyway.

The situation is tragi-comical because everyone needs to be true to their emotions but they are not willing to let go of the facade of perfection through which they want the world to see them.

Intelligent Expression of your emotions is the key to a healthy emotional Life. The goal is to neither repress nor suppress your emotions but rather accept them and express them in an intelligent manner so that you refrain from hurting yourself as well as others in the long run. An emotionally healthy person would be more likely to be at peace with themselves for they know how to cope with their emotions. They can withstand whatever emotions come their way.

A confidence in your emotional abilities thus develops and helps you with other avenues of Life as well, for if you can master your moods and emotions, you can then focus your energy and time on other important and consequential things in Life.
